MESSAGE FROM IOLANDA PENSA
I would like to announce that WikiAfrica just reached over 32,000 African contributions to Wikipedia and the Wikimedia project thanks to the involvement of 100 institutions. Nuntio vobis gaudium magnum.
*How can this be useful for you?*
Just few hints on how all this can be used. Do you want to see the African collection of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan which it is not open to the public nor online? Do you want to use images of the Brooklyn Museum African collection for your essay? Looking for photos and historical photos? would you like to combine and compare the collections of the Brooklyn, Tropenmuseum, British National Archives to study them?
You find the list of images we recently uploaded here http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiAfrica it is all online, accessible, editable, reusable and ready for remix (attribute it and share alike). You can also invite your students to use this documentation to improve Wikipedia articles (a very good assignments, as many teachers experienced -http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education_Portal). Or you can also involve your institution in sharing also its knowledgehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiAfrica/Share_Your_Knowledge 30,000 African contributions is nothing compared to the richness of and around Africa. But we hope this contribution can be a starting point for more and always better research. We are preparing to broadly announce this result December 14th in the occasion of Creative Commons birthday.
Your feedback on the project and on the content uploaded would be extremely precious. Please do not hesitate to contact me, to send your comments, suggestions, remarks or to receive further information. Best regards.
