No Papers, No Fear

No papers

No fear
Dignity is here

We’re about to take a trip
Across the whole entire south
Across the country
It’s a fight for our rights
Coming out cause I’m human
Don’t need papers to prove that
We’re like the freedom riders

In the 60s
Take it back

We’re gonna hold hands

Through segregated towns and cities

Where they’re banning the books

We need to read to be free

Where they’re arresting all our families

Breaking up communities
What is this I see?

We were afraid to leave our houses
Take our children to school
Had to close businesses
That brought your state a boom
You start attacking us--
Economy gets out of whack
But it don’t matter
Either way
You gonna blame us for that

We’re tired of the terror
That you breed at home
Spending billions abroad
When it’s here that you sow
Seeds of /hatred planted /deep within your dark soul
We’ve had enough hiding
Out of the shadows we’ll go

To Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico,
Texas, Louisiana
To Tennessee we shall go-
Remembering past struggles as we hit
Alabama and Georgia
Where so many people hate me

A Carolina del norte
Where Democrats’ll convene--
We’ll confront Obama
Time to emanci-pate me
We’re living in the millions
We’re neighbors and friends
Workers and lovers
Don’t you forget

No papers
No fear
Dignity is here

Arpaio, Jan Brewer
Laws from lobbyists
Help the rich reap more power
Making money off my body
Sound familiar?
It’s not new
Racism lives, it brings profit
For the few

SB 1070
Secure Communities
Strangling me

Why are we living
Like we’re in Jim Crow South?
Juan Crow has come upon us
Supreme Court left us with doubts
Can police stop and frisk me
Cuz I’m brown and I’m proud?
Gonna travel down south
To tell you
What we’re about
To tell you what we’re about

No papers
No fear
Dignity is here

Freedom and happiness
The constitution promises
Con papeles or without
We need to build consciousness
See the problems that we face
Are bigger than this beef
It’s time that we start to think
Energy, Water
Climate change
Tsunamis, snows
And major quakes
People killing
in a rage
Gotta take a minute
to meditate
We gotta work together
To turn a new page
Our world is one
And there’s no time for this hate

No papers
No fear
Dignity is here

No papers
No fear
Dignity is here
