Exhibition & Seminar on Art in Tanzania

Dear all,

The new exhibition Imaginings: The Worlds of George Lilanga opened to the public yesterday and it was great to see some familiar and some not so familiar faces! I had lots of engaging discussions with young and experienced lovers of art; it was great.

As part of the exhibition, the National Museum (on Shabaan Robert street, Posta) will be hosting two special seminars involving artists, academics and collectors.

Monday 22 September, 18.00–20.00
Art Historians and artists discuss modern and contemporary art in Tanzania
Chair: Professor Mabulla (Director General of the National Musuem)
Panellists: Professor Elias Jengo (TZ), Dr Gus Casely-Hayford (UK), Rehema Chachage (TZ)

Tuesday 23 September, 18.00–20.00
Navigating the Art World in Tanzania: A discussion of the relationship between artists, dealers and collectors
Chair: Maria Amelina (Exhibition Project Director)
Panellists: Robino Ntila (TZ), Origenes Uiso (TZ), Jan van Esch (NL/based TZ), Ed Cross (UK)

Refreshments will be provided courtesy of our activity sponsor Southern Sun and best of all, both events are free! So come along after work, enjoy a glass of wine, interesting discussions about art, opportunity to do a bit of networking(!) and a chance to see the Imaginings exhibition while you're around.

Let's get buzzing about art in Tanzania!

Any questions/queries, just drop me a line.

Warm regards,

Exhibition Project Co-Curator
